mission-watch

Mission Watch will be a webapp primarily targeting users that would like to learn about active and past space missions, but don't know where to start or how to find them. Our objective is to create an easy and fun user interface to discover missions, graph their position in our solar system, display their status, and link to related sites on the Web.

This project is solving the Space Adventure: From the Earth To the Limits of the Solar System challenge.

Description

It can be daunting for someone who is mildly curious to discover space missions. Our project aims to provide easy, low-hanging fruit to those curious minds by creating a webapp with a simple and fun UI that helps newcomers find basic yet interesting information about active and past space missions, so that we might capture their curiosity and encourage it to grow into a long-standing interest.

Real-time spacecraft location information is pulled from the JPL Horizons database, using a PHP port of the Python JPL Horizon Ephemeris API project of the 2013 Space Apps Challenge.
