in-mouth-touchpad

Design of electronic input device to control wearable computers In-mouth touch surface controlled with tongue in similar fashion consumer cell phones controlled by hand touch.

This project is solving the Space Wearables: Fashion Designer to Astronauts challenge.

Description

The project aims to develop new ways to input data and control software in an environment which makes traditional devices (keyboard, mouse, touch screen) difficult to use and for use cases where simple set of buttons / joystick does not give enough control and flexibility.

My proposed device is in-mouth mounted touch panel, wirelessly connected to a controller.

Implementation based on reconstruction of ferromagnetic liquid flow is proposed, using simlple grid of flow pipes and inductive printed copper line patterns. Software is out of the scope of the project, but aim is to make very simple and accurate electronic device and offload as much as possible to software device driver with more CPU and battery power available to it. Device itself collects just enough data to reconstruct ferroliquid flow, and, from it - pressure distribution.
