capturecam-omni

CaptureCam is a prototype for immersive reality system; it consists of an omnidirectional video camera whose video feed is viewed through virtual reality goggles. This would allow people on Earth to experience outer space and other planets to a degree of realism that has never before been possible.

This project is solving the ExoMars Rover is My Robot challenge.

Description

Conventional video capture devices have a limited field of view, which limits the situational awareness at any given moment. Since space exploration began, images and video from outer space have inspired scientists, engineers, artists, and other innovators all over the world. Recently-developed virtual reality hardware has allowed people to experience virtual environments like never before, and this technology could find use in allowing people to experience far-away landscapes on places like Mars, the asteroid belt, Saturn's rings, the International Space Station, or Jupiter's moons.
