  • SERVIR Himalaya, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and YoungInnovations have once again partnered to organize International Space Apps Challenge Kathmandu 2014 on April 12-13, 2014. Also, CSIT Association of Nepal (CSITAN) and Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN) are supporting to make it successful. 

    Similar to 2012 and 2013, there are more than 60 challenges organized in five different thematic areas like technology in space, human spaceflight, asteroids, earth watch and robotics. Participants chooses the challenges from the pool and provide their innovative solutions during the hackathon. The winning team will be awarded with cash prize of Rs. 30,000, the first runner up with cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and the second runner up with cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

    Judging Criteria

    Impact (Weightage: 30%)

    If the product is completed, does it solve the challenge? To what degree does the product try to create an impact in solving the problem in the challenge?

    Collaboration (Weightage: 10%)

    Are the team members working together? Are the responsibilities spread equally among the team members? Can you see the product output as per the number of team members?

    Product (Weightage: 30%)

    How complete is the product? Do they have a long way to go? How user friendly is the technology?

    Presentation (Weightage: 30%)

    How well did the team communicate? Are they effective in telling the story of the project and why it is important? How well did they respond to questions from judges?

    Nomination for Global Competition and People's Choice Award

    Judges will nominate two teams for global competition. The nominees will compete with other teams around the world. The teams will compete in one of the categories below:

    2. Galactic Impact
    3. Best Mission Concept
    4. Best Use of Hardware
    5. Best Use of Data


    Beside two teams, one of the teams will be nominated for People's Choice Award globally. Pictures of each team is uploaded in the Space Apps Challenge Kathmandu Facebook page's album. The team with most 'likes' will be nominated for the award.
