pocket-gravity

Pocket gravity is an Android app that shows gravity's changes around the globe without connection to the internet.

This project is solving the Gravity Map challenge.

Description

The gravity is different on every place on Earth. These differences have no effect on our lives but they affect satellites' orbits and planes' flight. Data about the anomalies has been gathered by NASA's GRACE and GOCE missions but reading it is hard without special software and impossible on the go. Pocket gravity solves that problem. Our app uses precalculated data from NASA's missions and terrestrial sensors. It takes user's coordinates from the phone's GPS module and shows the anomaly's value in mGal and the acceleration at the current spot. Pocket gravity also has the option to show a simulation of the geoid. In future the app will have the ability to show Moon and Sun's effect on the gravity. Also we can add information about other planets's anomalies. In it's current state we do not require connection to the internet but the data can't be updated. In future we can add option for update of the information from a server when a connection is available.
