flood-stories

There is a lot of talk about climate change. Hurricanes get stronger and more floods occure. To understand the impact on our daily lives we visualized climate events around the world and displayed this on a map. You can type your address and see for yourselve how close some events have been to your own house.

This project is solving the Earth Observation Visualization challenge.

Description

By actually hovering over our planet and see all events that happened the last 10 years and happens right now we would like everyone to think about the impact of these events and trigger action! The project results can be seen at: http://spotzi.com/en/climate-stories.

By adding impressive photos and links to articles related to the events we emphasized the events. Each photo has a compelling story. Take note of the words: heaviest flood, thousands displaced, people killed.

When working on this project we decided to open up our hosted mapping solution for free so we encourage people around the world to build their own stories. Teachers can use this to let students work on their own stories. We will also provide the NASA data so anyone can work with this.

We have also mentioned all of our software and data sources so people can work on their own project without the need of using our platform.
