aqi-platform

We are implementing a scalable solution to gather and handle data from several sources about Air Quality in order to create a platform where professionals and enthusiasts can review global air conditions globally, providing an API that can be used from new and current environmental tools and applications. Historic data will allow specialists to analyze, postulate and apply prediction patterns to alert from possible problems that could affect and endanger planet's life in the near future.

This project is solving the AirNow International Transport App (ANITA) challenge.

Description

Problems

There are lot of data regarding air quality, not only from North America but around the world too, through different environmental organizations that collect and catalog the information in different ways, so is not readily accessible

There is no standard way to use the data from NASA or local databases to assemble a full view of air quality.

Experts have to rely on incomplete data to generate air forecasts, specially in countries in development.

Solution

We are implementing a scalable solution that can gather and handle data from several sources, through APIs, Databases, Web Services or even spreadsheets and flat text files where are available from environmental organizations, governmental agencies or geo-stationary satellites like TEMPO, SENTINEL-4 and GEMS in the near future.

Our Goal

What we want to do with all this data is to create a simple yet powerful interface where professionals and enthusiasts can review global air conditions globally, providing an API that can be used from new and current environmental tools and applications.

For end users we want an application that can alert from hazardous conditions about where they are or where they'll arrive.

Having historic data will allow specialists to analyze, postulate and apply prediction patterns to alert from possible problems that could affect and endanger planet's life in the near future.

The application will be able to expose all the gathered data so an ecosystem of applications can be build around this data.
