wed-weather-embedded-device

The main purpose of WED is to help humanity to realize that there is actually a process called " Global warming". Our secondary purpose is provide a global network of accurate atmosphere conditions in every point on the planet Earth. Nowadays there are a lot of weather forecast channels and websites, but what is common between them is that they all give us the temperature and the humidity in only one point in the cities and not in real time, which is where the weather station is positioned.

This project is solving the Cool it! challenge.

Description

The main purpose of WED is to help humanity to realize that there is actually a process called " Global warming". Our secondary purpose is provide a global network of accurate atmosphere conditions in every point on the planet Earth. Nowadays there are a lot of weather forecast channels and websites, but what is common between them is that they all give us the temperature and the humidity in only one point in the cities, which is where the weather station is positioned. This is what we want to change!!!

We use a low-cost microprocessor and a combined sensor temperature - humidity with absolute limits from -20 to +50 degrees Celsius and 5 % to 95 % RH. The module uses a standard Li- ion battery at 3.7 V and can be charged via MicroUSB plug and via sunlight using a solar panel. The connection is established via low-cost Bluetooth supporting SPP(Serial connection). The combined cost of this is about 17 USD. The code is opensource and we use Arduino IDE for developing. The whole scheme can be easily reproduced using just Arduino and few other sensors.

The main purpose of our project is to deliver weather data such as real-time temperature and humidity, and a forecast(made by a forecaster), anytime anywhere, so you if you must travel to somewhere you can check what is the weather there like. The Android and Windows apps are made with the purpose to display that data and we have a web server where the data is collected and can be examined at anytime. We use this online database to make graphs about the change of weather conditions every day, and every user can easily make statistics about the temperature for a specific day, week, month, year or decade.

For now we are making a real PCB with everything for our project included and we are placing a barometric sensor, so we can make automatic forecasts based on the atmospheric pressure, and the data from other places. We are developing better modes for our device, with the aim to lower the battery consumption ( our device works 9 days with one charge and no solar panel, we are trying to make it work about a month without charging). We are also trying to lower the price of the components, our aim is 15 USD (price without the solar panel).
