Many asteroid visualizations do a good job of showing asteroids in physical space, their orbits, etc. We decided to create a data visualization of asteroids' characteristics to give the public an understanding of how asteroid discovery has progressed over time and the types of asteroids that have been discovered.

We use the Asterank API (http://www.asterank.com/api) to pull data about all near-earth objects (NEOs). We then plot several characteristics including spectral type, size, discovery, and orbit attributes using the data visualization library D3 (http://d3js.org/). Though we don't know what we'll find, the hope is that we may make some insights into NEO discovery.
