apophis-mission

Our project is to design a spacecraft that will allow us to send humans to explore the apophis asteroid and to deflect it from its trajectory if it were to represent a danger for earth. In case of a dangerous trajectory, we will board the asteroid several times and each time drill a hole to fill with a ionic propulsion engine that will enable us to change the trajectory of apophis.

This project is solving the Create Your Own Asteroid Mission challenge.

Description

Our project aims to achieve two goals: 1. Send humans to apophis for an exploration mission 2. Deflect Apophis from its trajectory if it were to endanger earth

To fulfill our goals we undertook to design a spacecraft which will allow us to do both. First we thought of using a Ionic Propulsion Engines (IPE) to deflect the asteroid from its trajectory. Then we designed the spacecraft in order to enable the exploration of the asteroid and the implantation of the IEP. To illustrate our designs we made two models ( the spacecraft and the landing site), a video that explains the implantation of the IEP and a video game that shows the difficulties to approach the asteroid.
