  • The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch at the University of Georgia is honored and proud to host the International Space Apps Challenge for the first year ever!

    IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. As a Student Branch, our goal is to uphold the organization’s mission of fostering technological excellence and furthering the professional development of students. Our student branch was recently established in November 2013 and we are striving hard to aid the development of outstanding engineers who will make positive impacts throughout the world. Our aim is to provide opportunities for members to enhance their skills both academically and professionally.

    We would like to cordially invite you all to join our location to have a great fun time by participating in this WORLDWIDE event to solve real life challenges for NASA and our daily lives on Earth!

    SATURDAY, APRIL 12th:

    • 9:00 AM - Doors open for participants to sign in (form teams if haven't already)
    • 9:30 AM - Let the Games Begin!!
    • 12:00 -1:15PM - Lunch Break (Participants can choose to take a break and grab lunch at a location restaurant in Downtown Athens, 10 minute walk from venue!)
    • 1:30 PM - Resume progress
    • 8:00PM - End of Day 1

    SUNDAY, APRIL 13th:

    • 9:00 AM - Doors open for participants to sign in
    • 9:30 AM - Let the Games Begin, Again!!
    • 12:00 -1:15 PM - Lunch Break (Participants can choose to take a break and grab lunch at a location restaurant in Downtown Athens, 10 minute walk from venue!)
    • 1:30 PM - Resume progress
    • 4:00 PM - End of Day 2/Submit Work for LOCAL AWARDS
    • 4:15 PM -Judges Talk/Discussion
    • 5:15 PM -Our Local Award Ceremony Begins
    • 6:30 PM - End of Our Location Space Apps Challenge!!
    IMPORTANT NOTES:

    Resources/Coaches to Help

    We will have "coaches" that will be in attendance throughout our event on both Saturday and Sunday to help you all with any difficulties your team may be facing and to give guidance and advice towards your projects. In addition, there will be members from our Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Student Branch to help you all to the best of their knowledge.

    Break Area – Microsoft Xbox One

    In case you all need a break from working extremely hard on your Space Apps challenges, Microsoft has generously donated a Microsoft Xbox One for us to use during the hackathon. Participates are more than welcome to take breaks and enjoy playing games on the Xbox One. HOWEVER, please make sure that you and your team members DO NOT let the Xbox One distract you from the real task at hand!

    Prizes

    There will be local prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place teams. The prizes are the following:

    Prizes (Teams of 3 people):

    1st Place = $75 Gift card x3 = $225

    2nd Place = $50 Gift card x3 =$150

    3rd Place = $25 Gift card x3 = $75

    You are more than welcomed to work in teams of more than three members or even less than three members. However, the individual allocated prize money for each place (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) will remain the same!

    There will also be door prizes for participants to have a chance to win. These prizes will include Microsoft Xbox 360 games and Microsoft Xbox Live Subscriptions.
